Counselling - An Integrative Therapeutic Approach

The style of counselling I use is called Integrative, it's made up of three different forms of counselling; Psychodynamic, Person-Centred (PCT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).  I have a specialist qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, some of the biggest advantages of CBT are that change can be brought about in a relatively short space of time and it teaches you many practical, useful and helpful strategies that you can use in everyday life, now and in the future.

Psychodynamic Counselling

This therapy can enable you to develop your self-awareness and bring about healing and can by helping you to examine and understand your past.  By uncovering and addressing how your past has shaped and influenced your present, you can better understand the reasons why you act and feel the way you do.
This model of therapy will lead you to greater personal insight and leave you better equipped to handle life.

Person-Centred Counselling

This therapeutic approach will enable you to safely explore your issues, feelings, actions and beliefs in a non-judgmental setting to help you to gain clarity about your issues and concerns, and how they impact upon you.  You will be supported to develop your own coping skills and strategies, to interpret your thoughts and feelings, change any behaviours that have a negative impact upon you, and to gain greater understanding and self-awareness.
The ultimate goal of this style of therapy is to help you to reach your full potential.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

This method of counselling is highly effective at changing negative or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours.  It focuses on how thoughts, attitudes and beliefs impact on our feelings and behaviours.  This form of counselling doesn't delve into your past, instead it deals with your current issues and looks for practical ways to improve how you are feeling.  You will be given strategies, tools and techniques to enable you to change the way you think and behave, this will allow you to break any negative cycles that you find yourself in.

Which style of counselling is best?

Sometimes people have had a negative previous experience of counselling and do not want to use that style of therapy again.  Please let me know if this sounds like you.
Often I will move between therapies, but you are unlikely to notice the change, I will be using the most appropriate for you and for for issues at that moment.
